Australian Women Writers Challenge 2013

I stumbled across this on Twitter and thought it was a nice idea: The 2013 Australian Women Writers Challenge.

The challenge is to commit to read and review a set amount of books by Australian women writers during 2013 – easy! I mean, I would have read some anyway, but this makes it more official. Of course, I’m going to seek out as many speculative and sci-fi chicky authors as possible, but maybe I’ll step out of my comfort zone too, and dip into some (shock) other kinds of fiction! Stranger things have happened, I assure you.

So, I’m thinking some old favourites: Playing Beatie Bow by Ruth Park, something by Isobelle Carmody (maybe a re-read of the Darkfall series?), plus I’ll be on the hunt for new, awesome Sci-Fi and Speculative fiction from the awesome ladies of my fair shores. A few folk have recommended The Infernal by Kim Wilkins (a nice horror fantasy novel from a Brisbane lass) so that is definitely going on the list.

Fellow Aussies! Recommend me a great read from an awesome Aussie Sheila!

  1. I’d seen the posts on Twitter for the last few days, but I’d been a bit lazy in signing up… so when I saw you’d joined I figured I’d make it official now too!

Yay for Aussie women writers and all their awesomeness!

  2. I’ve taken up this challenge too (along with several others!). Highly recommend Caroline Overington…found her last year and I’m hooked!
